February is probably the perfect time of year to visit the “Apple Isle”. First port of call is Burnie overlooking Emu Bay and surrounded by breathtaking scenery and stunning waterfalls. After leaving Burnie it’s time for a sumptuous five course dinner onboard.

Set sail from Fremantle on an adventure of a lifetime, Leisurely days at sea interspersed with a combination of exciting and exotic destinations will tempt both the most seasoned and novice travellers. Highlights of this trip include Manila, capital of the Philippines. This city was founded in 1571 and evidence of its Spanish origin can still been seen. The bustling market place in the old Quiapo district offers an array of handicrafts, beautiful fabrics and antiques.

Next your Japanese adventure begins. Okinawa Island is surrounded by emerald green water. Step back in time and visit the historical Shuri Castle. A full day in Tokyo allows for plenty of time to visit the Japanese Capital, a city which perfectly blends both modern and traditional cultures. Shimizu is one of Japan’s most beautiful ports with majestic Mt Fuji as a backdrop. Late March is the beginning of the Cherry blossom season which should see Osaka shrouded in blooms.

An overnight stay in Osaka will enable you to take an optional tour to Kyoto which is around an hour’s drive. Kyoto is a city of profound history and rich in tradition and represents the soul of Japan. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both sites of atomic bombing. A visit to Peace Park and the Atomic Bomb Museum are both very moving and unforgettable experiences. The story of Madam Butterfly was also created in Nagasaki.

After our stay in Japan it’s time to move onto China. Shanghai is a lively metropolis which is in stark contrast to the surrounding countryside. Zhujiajiao Water Village is about an hour’s drive away. Small rivers with willow trees planted on both sides gently crisscross the town. Spanning the rivers are stone bridges.

A trip to the Far East wouldn’t be complete without visiting Hong Kong. This city is unique from its back lane market places to cosmopolitan shopping centres,and outlying Islands providing so many ways to spend the day.

You will visit some of the most fascinating and beautiful destinations in the Orient. The end of March should see Osaka shrouded in cherry blossoms. Experience the diversity of Japan, a country where traditional culture is blended perfectly with ultra modern living. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both sites of the atomic bomb. A visit to Peace Park or the Atomic Bomb Museum, are both very moving and unforgettable experiences.

Next onto Shanghai, China, located in the estuary of the Yangtze River. Once again experience a blending of ancient and modern cultures where new skyscrapers stand beside traditional Chinese style buildings. Lantau Island is the home of the famous giant Buddha. A bus ride will take you to Tung Chung Town centre where you can take a cable car to Ngong Ping and the monastery located at the base on the giant Buddha.

This year Athena will make her annual pilgrimage to the UK via the Cape of Good Hope for the first time. Many of our regular guests undertake the Northbound Voyage each year so we’ve decided to change the scenery.

There will be plenty of time to enjoy the comforts of cruising along with exploring an array of new and exciting destinations. This is a cruise not to be missed. First port of call, Mauritius nestled between the sea and the mountains is a melting pot of cultures with French, British, Asian and African influences. Mauritius is also famous as the home of the extinct Dodo bird.

After visiting the Island of Reunion the next port of call is Durban in South Africa, renowned for its string of beaches known as the “Golden Mile”. There may be time to visit a game reserve or perhaps the Botanical Gardens featuring a unique orchid collection will be more to your taste.

Cape Town is a picturesque city with majestic Table Mountain visible from almost every aspect. A trip to the summit of Table Mountain by cable car offers breathtakingly beautiful views. Next is St Helena which is one of the most isolated islands on earth, famous as the island where Napoleon was exiled by the British and died.

Tenerife is the largest of the volcanic Canary Islands and is a popular tourist destination. There will be plenty of time to explore the streets and surrounds of Santa Cruz where you dock in Tenerife for the day.

Casablanca made famous by the movie is a blend of both modern life and rich cultural tradition with the downtown bazaar offering a range of souvenirs, rugs, antiques and craft items.

Portugal’s capital Lisbon is a lively city which has many both modern and historical buildings. After an unforgettable voyage on Athena you will arrive into Portsmouth UK, just in time for the start of the European Summer.
